1950 MG TD

Return

Fully restored TD, originally from California, per a copy of the original title.  Owner kept it for many years and then tore it down to “restore it”.  There it sat in a garage for better part of 20 years.  Then was bought by a guy in Kingman AZ for his wife and he started to work on it.  They got divorced and he had to “buy it again”, so he got a bit queezy every time he looked at it and offered it for sale.

The current owner purchased it in the late 90’s.  Since it was Cal/AZ car all its life, it had little or no rust so basically a good platform to start with.

Car has been finished about 6 years, only driven about 2,000 miles since completion.  Receipts are available for most of work below along with a photo history.

Engine- everything that moves was replaced basically.  A new Moss Motors forged crank is in it. New pistons, cam, push rods, lifters, timing chain and gears, all new load bearing studs, oil pump guts, water pump, etc. Crank, rods, pistons, flywheel and clutch professionally balanced.  Good oil pressure.

Body- as noted, little or no rust, but it did have some wood rot.  This was farmed this out to a pro, Barry Briskman in Scottsdale.   All body panels were stripped to bare metal, primed and painted.  Paint was done by Mike’s Paint shop.

Interior- new tan leather seating surfaces and new seat rubber.  New door panels and trim, and carpet.

Chrome, all new or redone, except radiator shell and light pods, which are original and in good shape.

Tires- good, radials

Transmission- replaced seals and some bearings.

Other- all new brake lines, rigid and flex.  Radiator re-cored. Generator and starter rebuilt.  All new proper wiring harness, but NOT cloth insulation as per original.

Top, full tonneau cover and side curtains in tan canvas, not vinyl.

So any known issues?

Standard old MG oil drips.  Speedometer works sometimes, sometimes not.  Rebuilt by a pro years back, but it still acts like there is dried out lube in it or something.  Tach and other instruments fine.   Likely needs an alignment, some shake at 55-60mph.  Upshift from second to third, when transmission oil is hot, is notchy. Solve by either shifting at about 4k rpm, double clutch or just pause in neutral for a second or so.

Asking $19,995.  Contact: mmo8522@cox.net  or 602-821-2600
